Previous week, we read Chapter 2 in Writing that Works, Project 2 description, the audience PPT, the Revision after Review PPT, and an article by Michael A. Stelzner on How to Write a White Paper.

From Chapter 2, we learned how to plan a document. While prior to reading the document I had been aware of how useful are outlines for a draft, this chapter provided some useful hints on how a document’s organization should follow certain sequential, chronological, and spatial order. After reading the chapter, I felt that I could learn some more about writing specific types of documents. Luckily, we had a reading to do on writing a white paper.

Michael A. Stelzner’s article How to Write the White Paper provided the definition of white paper and drafting strategies based on the analysis of the audience and rhetorical purpose. Prior to reading this article I already knew what a white paper was, but from the article I learned how to add substance and credibility to one’s white paper.

Both Chapter 2 and the white paper article, as well as the Audience Needs Analysis activity and Memo Analysis activity, set stage for Project 2 in that they prepare us and let us exercise for Project 2 research and writing tasks.
