Our last week readings included WtW’s Chapter 3, the Paramedic Method PowerPoint, and the Document Review PowerPoint. We also performed the Paramedic Method activity.

From Chapter 3, we learned how to draft a document from writing a rough draft to developing a closing. The important lesson for me was that any document should be drafted with a particular audience in mind. To a large extent, this chapter builds upon communication concepts we studied as part of our previous communication courses. However, these concepts are applied here to a real life task, such as writing a document, for which the document review PPT also added some helpful advice.

The study of the paramedic method, following the Chapter 3 reading, was a great exercise in keeping one’s writing succinct and to the point. It appears that plenty of fat can be removed from a sentence to make it lean and clear for the audience. I wish, however, I could also learn other writing strategies that help make one’s writing more focused. [if !supportLineBreakNewLine] [endif]
