This week we read Chapters 7, 8, 9, and 10; learned how to use the Paramedic method and how to design documents; examined Projects #1 and #2 revision policy; and summarized a study conducted by Larry Beason. In addition to posting Project #1 peer reviews, we read the description of genre analysis, which will be the focus of Project 2. Preparing rough drafts and providing peer reviews helped us better understand Project #1 requirements and paved the way to Project #2.

Although all of the readings were interesting, I especially liked the PowerPoint on Conducting Research. While I had studied the topic before as part of other ODU classes, this particular presentation contained practical advice which I found very useful. The presentation can serve both as a research guide and checklist for Projects #1 and #2. What I feel I still need more practice with is the Paramedic method. The method is a great way to edit awkward and lengthy sentences, but mastering it will take some practice.

Project #1 relates to Chapters 7, 8, and 9. Chapter 7 discusses how information should be organized according to audience and purpose of communication; Chapter 8 talks about crafting a persuasive arguments; and Chapter 9 provides information on how a clear structure and clear writing helps emphasize important aspects of communication. This knowledge will help me create a more persuasive argument for Project #1 and more effectively analyze genres for Projects #2.
